In a series of articles about Twitter, we talk to Nicholas Sinclair, CEO at Wealthfarm, about Twitter in business, the media and the community. VUE: How do you find topics and time to Twitter? NS: I don’t find time to tweet. I actually make time as Twitter sends traffic to my website and has increased recognition of both the Wealthfarm brand and my profile. Twitter also keeps me up to date with what people are concerned about or enjoy and is a way of interacting with my clients and the general public in a social manner. As far as topics are concerned, I comment on what is on the news and ask conversational questions encouraging response. For example: Who makes the best coffee on the Gold Coast?” VUE: What measureable business impact have you seen from Twitter? NS: Since embracing Twitter, I have found that there is a trend of traffic to our website from comments and stories that we have tweeted both on the Wealthfarm Twitter and my personal twitter. My public profile is more prominent and there has been an increase of media requests for comment on topical finance news. I believe that Wealthfarm is now the “go to” expert for information. VUE: What are your tips for building a presence on Twitter and gaining followers? NS: To build a presence, you just need to use it. Comment on things that are relevant to you and your business and join in conversations about inane topics. You never know who you will end up engaging with. VUE: What’s been your biggest learning experience on getting the most from Twitter? NS: If you don’t “tweet”, you are a “Twit”! Twitter and social media are definitely not a “fad”. They are here to stay. It can be “scary” to hang yourself out there and be open to criticism however if you are not on social media you are still liable for criticism but you may not know what is being said about you and therefore you cannot defend/rebuke or fix things in a timely manner. Today’s information highway is now more accessible and instant than ever and you need to be “driving” on that highway to take your business to the next level. VUE: Thanks Nicholas!
